Course on Emotional Communication

I am offering a course on the clinical chapters of my book, Emotional Communication: Countertransference Analysis and the Use of Feeling in Psychoanalytic Technique. The total course will focus on Chapters 4–15, covering each chapter in detail. Most chapters will be discussed in a single session, though four will require 2–3 sessions each.


Part 1 Will Cover:

  • Chapters 7


Part 1 Will Meet The Following Dates:

  • June 19, 2025

  • July 17, 2025

  • September 11, 2025

  • October 9, 2025

  • November 6, 2025

  • December 4, 2025

 
Sessions will be held via Zoom on Thursday mornings every four weeks, from 9:00 AM to 10:10 AM EST.  


Participants in Part 1 Will Be Able to:

  1. Understand the basic principles of emotional communication and induced countertransference.

  2. Identify the three elements of a counter transference: relational mode, specific feeling, and intensity

  3. Understand and identify introverted narcissistic countertransference

  4. Understand and identify extroverted narcissistic countertransference

  5. Understand and identify simple object countertransference

  6. Understand and identify inverse object countertransference

This will be a large class. Each session will include approximately 40 minutes of concept clarification, followed by 20 minutes for questions. Unlike my smaller groups, we will not present cases but instead focus on illustrating and exploring the theoretical concepts. Similarly, there will be some in-class discussion, but not at the same level as in the smaller groups.

The fee to attend the entire course live is $720 for people in the US and Australia.  It is payable in two parts: half before June 19 and half before January 2026. 

 

The fee for a video subscription in the US and Australia is $320. As per above, it can be paid in two parts. 

 

If you change from the full course to just Part 1, the fee will be $360, and the balance will be refunded if you pay the full $720 and decide to withdraw.  There will be no refund if you pay only for the video subscription.

Part 1 will grant 6 CE units for LCSWs, NYS Licensed Psychoanalysts, and NYS Psychologists.  Participants must attend or watch all classes to receive a certificate.
